Rawlings, (David) Stewart passed away January 19th, 2021, peacefully at home with loving family by his side. He was born November 9th, 1942 in Chatham to the late Frank Rawlings and Bessie (Jarrell-Coneybeare).
At a very young age his career began by assisting in the family trucking business, Rawlings Transport, before becoming an accomplished oil and gas driller. He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, George Harland Rawlings and father Frank Rawlings.
Rawlings Drilling Company was a pioneer in oil and gas exploration, being one of the largest operations in South Western Ontario. At the close of that era, Stewart became the owner-operator of Stewart Services Company. This business included operating cranes, millwrighting, welding and fabricating.
In his later years, Stew enjoyed photography, boating, fishing with his grandson Colin, long drives, antiquing, producing stained glass window hangings and socializing with his many acquaintances. He would not turn down the offer of a cold beer.
He is survived by his wife, Edwinna R. Rawlings (Smith) and feline friend Shadow.
He is also survived by his sons Jeff Rawlings (Victoria) and Scott Rawlings (Heidee), his grandchildren Colin and Ashlee, his sister Cathy Tiffin (Shawn) and his brother-in-law Robert Smith (Diane predeceased 2011) of Wheatley. Stewart is predeceased by his brother Michael Rawlings (2019) (Marcia). As he wished, cremation has taken place. Internment will be in the family plot in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
The family would like to thank the brief but amazing support of the South West LHIN, and especially the VON nurse, Mary Beth Cadotte. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
A family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
