Stew Massender

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stew Massender on Saturday October 23, 2021. Born in Chatham 53 years ago. The favourite son, Stew could do no wrong in the eyes of his parents the late George and Dorothy Massender. Loving husband and best friend of Paula for 25 years. Son-In-Law of the late Ruth LaRose. The best dad to Chris and Tiffany, Allie, Jordynn and special papa of Laken. Papa of Trizton, Tayleigh, Gabby, Tianna, Dexter, and Hannah. Little brother of Brenda (Late Joe), and Deb and Bob. Special brother-in-law of Ellen (Lionel), Steve, Sheila, and the late Wayne LaRose. Beloved family friend of Sue.

Uncle Grease to Lori, Jodi, Terri and Brad, Joe and Christine, Charlie (Lindsay), Bill (Stephanie), Dennis (Pauline), Michael, Jackie, Gerrit (Rachel), Lindsey, Jillian, Nick, and the late Stephanie LaRose. Crazy Uncle Stewieeee to Jessica (Travis), the late Joseph Turner (Marissa), Katie, Kelsey, Cam, Danny, Michael, Brady, Abby, Emma, Mackenzie, and Bradley. Special friend of Brad Chinnick. Great friend to everyone he met, even in passing or a quick wave while driving down the road.

Dad was a kid at heart and larger than life itself. Always had a wrench in one hand, a McDonald’s coffee in the other and a big smile on his face whether it was turning wrenches, towing cars off of the track at Buxton or helping the kids at Route 1 Raceway. Dad was happiest when he was out grading or driving his John Deere tractor in the parade. He was willing to lend a helping hand to absolutely anyone at any time.

To us, dad will always be remembered as the Jack of all trades, having to re-renovate every 6 months or less when we found a new idea on Pinterest or HGTV or if we just didn’t like where a wall was or the colour of it. Dad was our master mechanic, always coming to our rescue and fixing every thing we broke followed by his famous “456”.

10-4 Rubber Duckie

All are welcome to attend a visitation with Stew’s family on Friday October 29, 2021 from 5 pm – 8 pm at Life Transitions (397 McNaughton Ave W. Chatham). All current Covid protocols will be in place. The family welcomes all to wear their favourite race shirt, jeans, and hat in honour of Stew.

There will be a celebration of life for family and friends to follow at a later date. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Stew’s name are invited to consider Children’s Health Foundation for the Children’s Hospital in London.
