Ron Poissant

Ronald Joseph Poissant, 78, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on June 13th, 2021 in Chatham, Ontario.  Ron will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Ria (Maarhuis).

Ron was the proud father of Sandy (Shawn) Comiskey, Michelle (Thomas) McGowan and Rob (Kristi) Poissant.  Pepe will be missed greatly by his eight grandchildren, Erin, Olivia and Jonathan Comiskey; Thomas, Kevin and Matthew McGowan; and Jack and Maggie Poissant.

Survived by his brother Raymond (Gail) Poissant, sister in-law Margaret Ondrovcik, brother in-law Francis (Shirley) Cadotte, close family friend Leo (Linda) Faubert, brother in-law Pete (Sharon) Maarhuis, and sister in-law Sandy Maarhuis. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Ernest and Isabella (Antaya) Poissant, sister Rita Anne Cadotte, sister in-law Ruth Ann Poissant, brother in-law David Ondrovcik, and brother in-law Dick Maarhuis.

Ron worked the majority of his life as a major appliance service technician and in his later years kept busy managing an auto parts delivery service.  He enjoyed every moment with his grandchildren, and especially loved camping and fishing with them.  Ron cherished his time in Florida at Traveller’s Rest Resort in the winter and at Lakewood Christian Campground in the summer.  He made many good friends and was always up for playing cards, bocce ball, going out for dinner, or helping a friend in need.

Ron dedicated many years of his life volunteering at the Westover Treatment Centre.  He was very passionate about helping people and giving back to his community.

Many thanks to all the London and Chatham health care professionals involved in Ron’s care, especially nurse Monica for her kind and loving support.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be announced at a later date.

We are Travelers Rest neighbors and best friends-there was never a more helpful, caring, thoughtful man than Ron! He would and did anything he could to help us and so many others. He exemplified Jesus command to “Love and care for your neighbor! Ron had a delightful sense of humor, and a deep faith in God! He and Ria were a “perfect match” for one another, and complemented each other in their wonderful marriage of 56 years. We miss you terribly, dear Friend! We can still hear your voice echoing the words from “Red Green”- “ If you can’t be handsome, you better be handy”! You were both “handsome and handy”, Ron- Rest In Peace❤️
