Peter William Leighton

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peter William Leighton of Sarnia, on Dec 14, 2020. He was living a healthy life up to the age of 98, before succumbing to a short illness he unfortunately couldn’t overcome. He leaves behind his beloved wife Donajeane of 68 years, predeceased by daughter Sue Foster (Dec14 / 2000). Much loved father of Judy Greenwood (Chuck), Terry Leighton (Virginia), Sandy Furlotte (Shawn), and Doug Leighton. Proud grandfather of Stacey Wilson (Don), Steve Foster (Brianne), Cory Greenwood (Stephanie), Kyle Greenwood (Jacqueline), Randy Leighton (Amber), Chris Leighton (Carrie), Michael Leighton (Jennifer), and Tim Leighton. Beloved Great Grandpa/Papa of 16 great grandchildren. Nothing was more important than his family which he loved with all his heart. Peter was employed at Prestolite for 32 faithful years to provide the most for his family. Many would see Pete at the ball park every summer umpiring, as well as goal judging and running time clocks in the winter arenas, as his desire was to encourage participation in sports. Throughout his long and active life, Peter met many friends.Yearly family vacations were important and a priority to be together. A “sniper” in the Winnipeg Rifles “Little Black Devils” Regiment in WWII, we are so grateful that he survived and returned to Sarnia to marry his sweetheart Donajeane and began their family. The definition of a True Hero, loved by many, and will be sadly missed. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place at a future date. Many thanks to all the staff members at Vision Nursing Home for providing outstanding compassionate care during his stay. Expressions of Sympathy can be expressed through donations to the Alzheimers or Cancer Societies would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Life Transitions Burial and Cremation Service Inc.

So sorry to read of your father’s death tonight. Sounded like he had a pretty good life and a very active one at that. Such a hard time losing our loved one at this time of year and also with the Covid. Treasure all your fun memories.
