WINTER, Michael – It is with extreme sadness and broken hearts that the family of Michael Winter announce their loss on July 25, 2018. Loving husband of Anneliese for 63 years. Proud Dad of Sylvia (George), Michael (Karen), Dorthylee (Allen), and Jason (Margo). Caring and loving Grandpa and Opa to Thomas (Veronique), Nickolaos (Marcela), Lisa (Bobby), Tyler (Erin), Austin (Laney), Sebastian, Laken, Nevaeh, and Rhys. Treasured Great Grandpa and Opa to Mia, Logan, Gabriel, and Edison. Brother-in-law to Fritz (Louise) Hirt. Dear Uncle to Richard and Kirstin Hirt. Mike was born in Fuerstenstien, Germany on June 23, 1930 and immigrated to Canada in 1951. He moved to Sarnia in 1954 where he met the love of his life, Lisa. Mike and Lisa referred to each other affectionately as Schatzi. Lisa also immigrated to Canada from Augsburg, Germany. They married on February 19, 1955. Mike was a true gentleman and a dedicated and loyal friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was the family handy man and always had his tools in his trunk when he visited. He was an enthusiastic story teller and provided many life lessons to his children and grandchildren as he helped guide them through their lives. He was an accomplished poker player and loved participating in board games, cards, darts, and horse shoes. He also enjoyed watching wrestling whenever he could and listening to Paul Harvey’s radio show, “now you know the rest of the story”. Mike was a loyal and dedicated member of local 663 for over 50 years. He loved Canada and was so very proud of becoming a Canadian citizen. He lived his life with dignity and honour, a strong work ethic, honesty, humility, and always a sense of humour. Most importantly, was the love he had for his family and the time he spent with them. He was truly their mentor and hero and set a loving and stoic example to live by. Mike had a heart of gold! Mike’s family is truly heart broken and will forever keep him in their thoughts and prayers. A celebration of life for Mike will be held on Sunday, August 12 from 2 pm – 4 pm at Sarnia Golf and Curling Club. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton and are gratefully appreciated.
