John Rodenhuis was called to his heavenly home by his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on November 15, 2019 with Lynn, his beloved wife of 56 years at his side.
He is predeceased by his daughter Janet (2005). He was the loving father of Rob (Krista) and Opa of granddaughters Deneen, Jill and Olivia.
He was born “Jan” in 1930 in the northern part of The Netherlands in the province of Friesland in an area known as Het Bildt. In that beautiful area near the North Sea, he grew up on a farm with his parents, his sister Annie and brothers Cees, Wieb and Sieger.
Jan married Lien in 1963 and they emigrated to Canada in 1967 with their daughter Jantine. They decided to introduce themselves in their new home as John, Lynn and Janet with baby Rob arriving after settling in Sarnia, Ontario.
John was devoutly fervent in his Christian faith from an early age. He became an expert in the prophecies of the Bible and he had a keen interest in how they had and would yet manifest themselves in the world.
If you spent any time with John you would undoubtedly hear him sing and whistle his favourite songs which mostly spoke of God’s love and faithfulness. His smooth tenor voice found its place in the harmony of several choral groups, most recently the Sursum Corda Christian Male Chorus.
Languages and words were always a fascination of this man. He could read and write in Dutch, Bilts, Fries and English. He was also quite comfortable meddling in French and German. He took note of the quirks of these tongues, often combining or translating languages with comic intent.
Now that John has gone to meet his Maker we celebrate his life with fond memories.
Please join us for a memorial celebration which will be held at Bethel Pentecostal Church, Sarnia. December 4, 2019 from 2-4 pm with a special tribute beginning at 2:30. Those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to consider St Josephs Hospice.
