Gary Evans

After a courageous battle with cancer, Gary Evans of Chatham passed away peacefully at home on Friday July 9, 2021. Loving husband of Kathy (Coffman-Brown) Evans. Father of Gary Evans and Derrick Evans both of Victoria BC, and Lacy Gilbert (Darryl) of London. Step-father of Robin Brown of Chatham. Grandfather of Stephanie Evans, AJ Evans (Anna), Tony Evans, Brandon Evans, Zach Gilbert and Jordan Gilbert. Great grandfather of Carl Evans. Son of Jack and Elsie Evans. Gary is survived by his brother-in-law Arceen Vande Sompel and his nieces and nephews, David, Denise (Dan) of Chatham, Michael (Stacey) of Toronto, Rick, Natalie (Rino) of Windsor, and Lori, Mary Kay, and Chris of Woodland CA. Predeceased by sister Marlene Vande Sompel and sister-in-law Carolynn Borst and nephew Brian Vande Sompel. He will also be missed by his furry friend Caesar. Gary was known throughout his life for his stylish, always pressed attire, perfectly polished, unique black cars, playful sense of humor and his quick wit. Gary was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Moose Lodge. Those wishing to make a charitable donation in memory of Gary are asked to please consider Chatham-Kent Hospice or PAWR.  Cremation has taken place with a gathering to happen at a later date.

  9. I met Gary 33 yrs ago when l started with Doher Realty. Gary was always dressed to the 9’s, kept his car immaculate and had a wicked smile! I enjoyed working with him and had a huge amount of respect for him. I am sad to see another old friend pass. He will be missed. To the entire Evans family I send my condolences and will never forget a true classy legend.

    He was always dressed with a pressed shirt and was handsome I might add!
    He is now done with the pain and is probably already creating havoc up there-hah! And I smile when I think of him!

    1. Hey Sally and Lee, thanks so much for your great condolences! You made me laugh and I sure need that right now. Is the “terrible dancer” from when he and Renee’s friend danced together at your wedding??? That was so funny. I had told Gary that when I saw you, you said to tell him he still owed you $5 – he got a real laugh from that, and he needed it then.
