Gary Duffy

Gary Allen Duffy passed away September 5th with his children and family by his side . He was a son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. Gary will leave behind his two children, Tara Duffy and Scott Duffy and their spouses Norm and Kelli; his grandsons Cole and Noah; his mother Marion Duffy; sister Gale Uniacke (Tony); brother Lee Duffy (Ruth); sister Laura Gawne (Greg); sister Gwen Jubenville (Randy); sister Janice Duffy (Shawn); sister Erin Duffy (Rob); and all 49 of his nieces and nephews. Gary was predeceased by his father Gordon Duffy (1997), his sister Heather Lynn Duffy (2001) and his nephew Mark Uniacke (2001).

Gary began his working career at Motor Wheel, and later became a highly sought after Electrician who spent many successful years self-employed. Later he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was able to travel across Canada where he took care of electrical plans as well as managing various job sites.  A highlight of his career was working for DeBeers Canada where he was issued top level security clearance executing the overall production of the electrical installation at their west coast diamond mine. He was a friend and mentor to many in his work field. Gary’s work ethic was second to none. He demanded excellence and best efforts and always led by example. Gary often used his trade skills to help out any family member or friend in need. He was an extremely generous and kind soul who would give you the shirt off of his back.

Throughout his life, Gary had a passion for music. He played a variety of instruments by ear and loved to attend live music concerts. He also spent his leisure time fishing, camping, and cruising down the road sipping his Tim Hortons coffee. Gary was a “Jack of all Trades” who particularly enjoyed restoring vintage cars and motorcycles. He loved nothing more than a good old fashioned family get-together, and with a family of this enormity, it happened often. Gary was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren who reside in Toronto, and kept his family entertained and informed of their many adventures and achievements.

If you would like to make a donation in Gary’s memory please support The Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent or the Chatham Kent Hospice.

  12. Tara and Norm, my condolences as you deal with the many thoughts and emotions and realizations that accompany the loss of a parent. Your father must have been quite a man and lively, loving example! Be there for each other and know that your friends are there, too, at least trying to do so. Take care, Alan
