Dirk “Big Dick” Augustyn

Augustyn, Dirk “Big Dick”. Born on November 10, 1944 in Laagenmierde, Holland, Dirk passed away unexpectedly on October 20, 2018. Predeceased by his parents Henk and Grace and by his great-nephew Justin. Dirk is survived  by his sisters Mary (Bert), Elizabeth and Marie. Loving father of Kevin and Pamela, Randy and Sara. Super proud Opa of Braden, Madison, Bryce and Brianna. Dirk will be fondly remembered by a large collection of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, golfing buddies and friends. The family would like to recognize Dirk’s close friend and neighbour Harry Hope for all the support he gave in the last few years. Dirk spent his career as a butcher and served MANY miles as a volunteer driver for Children’s Services and the Cancer Society. Consistent with Dirk’s wishes, his “perfect specimen” of a body was to be donated to science followed by cremation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 5. To Dirk s family, your father drove our son to his treatments at London Cancer clinic. His drive was the high light of his day. They always had great conversations and he drop our son off with a smile on his face. He touched more lives than you know. Thanks to him our son still smiled during a very low time in his life.

  6. Very, very tough losing a great friend! Was like a father figure to me, when my Dad passed early in my life. Will be sadly missed. Kevin, Randy and your families very sorry for your loss. I’m sure he is teeing off on the first hole right about now! Golf will not be the same! Have a great round, Dirk!!

  7. Dick was an incredible friend and a very caring ‘Uncle Dick’. He loved the car rides with his golf rivals and would do anything to get a laugh and make somebody’s day. His sense of humour and huge heart will be missed!

  8. My dear old friend Dirk, I’m so sad to hear of your passing. I’ll cherish our memories of working together at IGA and our group trips to Hooters! You were such a gentle soul with a caring heart … RIP

  9. Growing up Dick would call our house often to speak with my dad. Just seeing his name on the caller ID made you laugh out loud! Even if my dad was home you knew you’d be on the phone with Dick for a solid ten minutes before he’d let you pass the phone over and if my dad wasn’t home well then Dick would have you committed to a full on 30 minute conversation that would leave your cheeks burning from laughing so hard at all he had to say. That loud voice of his will certainly be missed. What an amazing guy. We will miss you Dick.

  10. Deepest sympathy to the Augustyn family. He will be sadly missed. Especially his sense of humour. I never had a conversation with him when he didn’t make you laugh.
    Rest in peace Dick
